Alerting your vessel about a Man Overboard is the most rapid and reliable recovery option. In moderate seas, losing sight of a person overboard can occur fast. That’s why Ocean Signal’s MOB2 combines both AIS and VHF DSC emergency technology in the latest AIS class M-compliant solution.

Upon activation, the MOB2’s location is regularly updated and displayed on an AIS-enabled plotters. With its integrated GPS, the MOB2 provides precise location data to your vessel and any assisting vessels.  Nearby vessels are automatically alerted to man-overboard situations through VHF DSC.  The Ocean Signal MOB2 is nearly half the size of the competing products and fits perfectly inside inflatable lifejackets.  It also boasts a longer operating life, automatic activation via an inflatable lifejacket, dual IR and White strobe lights, and NFC mobile app connectivity.

Engineered to exceed Class M requirements, the MOB2 is Compliant with regulation ECC/DEC/(22)02 regarding the use of MOB devices.

The MOB2 can be activated manually or automatically when installed within an inflatable lifejacket (automatic). Installation is made simple using the included oral inflation tube clip to attach the MOB2 to the lifejacket with a ribbon connected around the bladder of the lifejacket. Once correctly installed, the action of the lifejacket inflating triggers the deployment of the antenna and activation of the beacon.

The best chance of rapid rescue if you fall overboard comes from your own vessel. The crew needs to be immediately aware of the incident and keep track of your position. Even in the most moderate of seas it is alarming how quickly a visual sighting can be lost.

Compatibility: Most modern AIS plotters and DSC VHF comply with the standards required to receive MOB transmissions. However, it is recommended that you check compatibility with the equipment manufacturer, especially if you are using older equipment.  See the FAQs on Ocean Signals website for more information.
